Villa Kujoyama x Dutch Embassy 2:
Networks + artworks
For the second event in the collaboration between Villa Kujoyama and the Dutch embassy, they presented a series of short and dynamic presentations highlighting different aspects of Artist in Residence, entitled ‘Networks + Artworks’ on Thursday 7 February. This event was organized in the framework of ResArtis 2019 (http://www.resartis.org/en/meetings/upcoming_meetings/february_2019_-_kyoto_japan/) as a public event accessible to all interested in the theme.
As navigating options around residency opportunities as an artist, small organization, or independent can be overwhelming, the event focused on questions such as: Where is the best place for my practice? Do I need to go internationally? How am I funded, how are residences funded? Can you help me apply? Is there any support? Who can I talk to? What do I do?
These questions where addressed from different angles through five presentations by Marie Fol (On the Move) & Heidi Vogels (Transartis), Aruma Toyama (ARCUS), Shintaro Tokairin (AIT), Charlotte Fouchet-Ishii (director of Villa Kujoyama), Julie Stephen Cheng & Thomas Pons (artists and former residents of VK).
The presentations were followed by a speed-date session where the participants had the opportunity to meet and interact directly with professionals from Japan along with international experts. Participating organizations were: Tenjinyama, Villa Kamogawa, Taipei Artists Village, Camargo Air, Re:Search, Microresidencies network, Creative Residency in Arita.
