Textile designer Mae Engelgeer collaborates with HOSOO

HOSOO, a Kyoto-based textile company founded in 1688 specializing fabrics for high-end interior and fashion design, has invited Dutch designer Mae Engelgeer for an extended stay in Kyoto in July 2019. HOSOO’s artisans and Engelgeer will work together to explore innovative perspectives on HOSOO’s time-honored craft.

Dutch designer Mae Engelgeer attended the Amsterdam Fashion Instituut where she specialised in textile design. Later she was accepted to the prestigious Master Course in Applied Arts at the Sandberg Instituut and developed her first collection of textiles at TextielLab. In 2013 Engelgeer opened her own studio in Amsterdam, working on product design and development, installations, and international collaborations.

  • Artist talk by Chikako Watanabe

    Amsterdam based Japanese artist Chikako Watanabe is commissioned by the Noseden Artline to present a new work at this biennial art festival which is centered around the Noseden Railroad. Watanabe will focus on Myoken Mountain, the end destination of the railroad. This mountain straddles Hyogo, Kyoto and Osaka. As part of her participation is the artist talk at Kyoto Seika University on June 29th. Subject of the artist talk is “A journey to meet the stars seers: Artscape, Amsterdam, and Mount Myōken”.

    Villa Kujoyama organized Forum Design Kyoto in collaboration with the Dutch Embassy, acting as a satellite event to the Paris Design Forum that was held from 16 to 18 November in Paris. Through a series of keynote lectures and an incubation session, speakers provided ideas on how to innovate and shape urban environments.
